Boston City Council preliminary election is held.

Ricardo Arroyo in District 5 and Kendra Lara in District 6 become the first incumbents to fail to qualify for the final election in November since the current council structure was adopted in 1983. Fewer than 10 incumbents have failed to win reelection during that time.
